Andy Trombley

Andy Trombley was a fine carver from the Mt. Clemens area.

The son-in-law of Hans Janner Sr., Trombley was a extraordinary woodcarver and an even better painter, often using a mesh hairnet in painting his decoys, to give the appearance of scales. He collaborated with other master carvers, as shown in the example below, which was carved by his father-in-law and painted by Trombley.

Raised in a large family that fished and hunted locally, Mr. Trombley resided in Harrison Township with his wife and daughter. At the time of his death in 1975, he was the last surviving member of the "Master" fish decoy carvers.
